This is an idyllic holiday and a wonderful experience, travelling through one the most beautiful mountain ranges of Europe, crossing three different countries and riding from the Mediterranean Sea to the Atlantic ocean. Come with us and ride the famous passes in the Pyrenees where the Pro Tour riders fight, year after year, to win the yellow jersey or to just ‘simply’ to win an epic stage.
This tour is designed for the experienced rider, but as with all our tours, it’s not just about the riding. We also offer the opportunity to discover and appreciate different cultures which evolved centuries ago in these remote mountain areas. These differences are still very much in evidence nowadays in the regions of Catalonia, Andorra, Ariege, Navarra and Basque Country which we will all traverse. An absolutely wonderful holiday experience!

Daily Distance: Approx 90km – 55mi
Total Distance: Main Route: 1100km – 685mi
Total Ascent: Approx 21000m – 69000ft

Highlights:
It will seem as if you are riding through a painting, along very quiet roads through verdant hills and vineyards, with spectacular views to the Alps that separate Italy from Switzerland and France. This tour is for the cyclist after an experience to delight the heart and tastebuds.

Famous throughout the world for its wine and gastronomic riches, such as the Barolo wine and white truffles of Alba, Piedmont offers superb cycling with easy or challenging climbing through its abundant vineyards and wineries, sweet hills and picturesque towns.

This tour departs from the beautiful town of Alba, passes through the ancient roman bath city of Acqui Terme and finishes near the birthplace of Italy’s cycling greats Fausto Coppi and Giradegno, Novi Ligure.

This is a gastronomic tour de force with cycling thrown in to make sure you’ve worked up an appetite. Buon Appetito!!

This tour has something for everyone including catering for two levels of cyclist.

The casual rider: We have planned an itinerary that caters for the rider who occasionally dusts off the bike and gets out on weekends. For you, this is about getting enough exercise in to justify the lavish dinners and spectacular wines of the Piedmont Region.

The seasoned rider: Our Tour is in Fausto Coppi’s backyard. You will quickly see where he got his legs from. There’s some serious climbs for the experienced rider, with most of the daily routes being undulating. You’ll have every reason to gorge yourself on Piedmont’s delicacies at the end of the day.

Daily Distance: Approx 60km – 37mi
Total Distance: Main 430km – 267mi; Long 620km – 385mi
Total Ascent: Approx 4,500m – 14,765ft

My experience of First Light bicycle tours started with a week-long tour through Bohemia on the Prague-Vienna Danube bike tour. Our group of intrepid holiday-makers pedaled into the Czech countryside with our helmets, maps, carefully set-up bikes and each other. We also had a guide.

Thanks to the presence of our guide, Briand at all key moments (junctions, hotel receptions, lunch-stop restaurants, occasionally a-wheel on the ride itself, indeed - and uncannily - whenever our journey could best be assisted or enriched by his presence) we had a great time enjoying this thoroughly well-planned cycling holiday.

As a cycling journalist with eight years’ experience I have, as part of my duties, attended cycling holidays with many different companies. However, for the Prague-Vienna trip, I approached First Light after being attracted to their impressive and informative website. On all levels I was not disappointed; a high standard of service was maintained from the first communication through to the final drop-off in Vienna. I would have no hesitation in recommending First Light to anyone seeking a high-quality experience on two wheels.
