Overview
France Cycling - D Day Beaches, Normandy & Brittany. It’s hard to cram 1000 years of history into a seven day bike tour but that’s exactly what we’ve done. As you look down on the D-Day battlegrounds, you’ll get a sense of what it was like for the Vikings, William the Conqueror and the Allies who used these famous shores to begin their epic conquests.
Discover France through its towns while you cycle through them They're a living history lesson - Bayeux and its famous tapestry and Cathedral; the stunning tidal fortress of Mont St. Michel, the most sacred site in France; Saint Malo, the buccaneers fort steeped in pirate lore and used to launch attacks against unwary English and Portugese ships – each is a chapter in the exciting history book that is Normandy and Brittany.
This is a great tour for adults and kids. Cycling through France on bike-only lanes that follow lazy canals and river valleys, through quiet villages. One day you’ll be riding along the dykes that hold back the Atlantic, the next you’ll be racing pleasure craft move up the Rance canal.
The sea is your dinner table. The Bay of Mont St. Michel is the mussel and oyster capital of France, their idea of a seafood takeaway. You’ll cycle on beach paths to coastal markets where the mussels come hot and steaming, backed up with Breton bread, wine and cider. In Cancale, an entire seafront is given over to sun-kissed cafes, which call to you with glasses of chilled rose.
Your lodgings are hand-picked chateau hotels, seafront inns and bayside lodges we love to visit again and again. Dining is king, with rich Breton traditions of surf and turf mixed in with epic landscapes. It’s all good. Adults will enjoy the excellent food and comfortable inns. And…if you bring the kids along they won’t be stuck when it comes to writing what they did on their summer vacation.
